You are the light I never thought I'd find
No matter what they threw at us
We would never back down"
One Word Review: Energized
Armageddonize is an excellent album filled to the brim with explosive hard rock and an all-embracing melodic warmth. After a couple of straight-ahead rockers, the album reaches its potential with three pieces of complete melodic brilliance, especially Wide Open has taken over my brain with one flash of its chorus, showcasing the incredible potential the band has, when they get it right. After that, the album never really recovers, but does hold the quality high throughout. If the momentum had been kept, then this would have been a small masterpiece. As it is, Armgeddonize is simply a superb, slick slab of rock. The lyrics are another high point.
My one problem with the album is the production, which is so lacking in dynamics that it hurts. This results in a shrill and piercing sound, especially when the volume is turned up, and this makes it a tough listen in what is supposed to be its most favorable environment. It is a damn shame but it is not surprising since so many great albums have fallen prey to this in the past, only here, I found it very much in focus.
