Right from the first second of this song, I am enthralled. Tori Amos delivers a performance, which is heartfelt, emotional and hits exactly the right note. A very special and very dramatic atmosphere is set right from the start and when the chorus arrives, it is like a warm embrace. The strings underline the atmosphere in the most beautiful way. Maybe California perfectly captures the melancholy of its devastating lyrics and in 4 minutes, it manages to leave an everlasting mark in my mind. Songs like this one is why I love music as much as I do.
